PETROLEUM GEOSTATISTICS FOR RESOURCES ESTIMATION

PETROLEUM GEOSTATISTICS FOR RESOURCES ESTIMATION
MARRAKECH (MOROCCO)
17 JANUARY – 21 JANUARY 2011

mustafa.touati(at)mines-paris.org

Who should attend?

Geologists, Petroleum Engineers and Geophysicists who need to have a broad knowledge about Petroleum Geostatistics and its use to Reservoir Characterization.

You will learn how to:
  • Come up with Exploratory Data Analysis using geostatistics tools
  • Come up with the best estimates when formulating a problem geostatistically
  • Simulate variables to come up with various equi-probable scenarios
  • Come up with volumetrics estimates and underlying uncertainties of every estimation

Course Content:

Geostatistics is recognized in the Petroleum Industry as the state of the art tool for estimating resources and quantifying underlying uncertainties and heterogeneities.

This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the essential concepts and techniques of Petroleum Geostatistics applied to reservoir Characterization. The course contents are: (i) Fundamentals of geostatistics concepts (ii) Demonstrations and examples using an easy use and friendly software (Isatis).
  1. An introduction to Petroleum geostatistics: why use Geostatistics for reservoir characterization?
  2. The framework for geostatistics & the Geostatistical concepts
  3. Spatial data analysis: experimental variograms, clouds, maps
  4. Variogram models
  5. The theory and properties of the Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE)
  6. Kriging, Co-Kriging, Co-Kriging, External Drift
  7. Uncertainties related to the Kriging
  8. Conditional Simulation
  9. Case studies: Using geostatistical techniques in an exploration, evaluation or production

BIOGRAPHY OF THE INSTRUCTOR

Mustafa Touati is a Petroleum Engineer, from 2002 to 2010 he worked with Saudi Aramco’s Reservoir Engineering Technology Team at the EXPEC Advanced Research Center on the static and dynamic aspects of pore scale modeling. Prior to joining Saudi Aramco he worked two years at Start up company in Washington DC area implementing geostatistics Technology for cellular modeling. Prior to joining ScoreBoard, he worked 4 years with Paris School of Mines and the French Petroleum Institute and it’s subsidiaries for the account of its North and South American clients, he was in charge of consulting and training in the domain of Reservoir Characterization using Geostatistics.
