How to get my demo application on the server?

Manually by admin

  • See if all required software (e.g. databases) are available, check list above
    • if not all you need is available, send and email to the server admin and explain what you need and why
  • A) Create a short installation instruction for your software (if it does not exist yet)
    • ideally this is an installation script that downloads the software from a repository, builds it and creates a deployable, readily configured application
    • clearly include the required users and passwords/logins
  • B) Create a deployable, readily configured application supporting the
    • for a webapp, this could be an SQL file for the database structure and a .war-file for the actual webapp
  • Make the script or the webapp available for download (e.g. attach it to wiki or a file hosting site)
  • Send email with ..
    • instructions to install your software to the server admin
    • a short text describing your project including a link to the project description page (wiki, blog, ...)

Manually by student

  • Do all steps of "manually by admin" but ask to do the installation yourself if you cannot automate the configuration or prepare a pre-configured image
